Privacy Policy

How Fjord Intel handles your data. We collect minimal data, don't track you across sites, and don't sell anything.

What we collect

Fjord Intel collects anonymous usage analytics to improve the platform. This includes:

Pages visited and tabs used

Clicks and interactions (button names, not content)

Country (derived from IP geolocation)

Device type (mobile/desktop, derived from user agent)

Session duration

Referrer (which site linked you here)

All analytics are aggregated and used solely for improving the platform. We do not build individual user profiles.

What we don't collect

No user accounts or logins
No email addresses or names
No payment information
No phone numbers or physical addresses
No tracking across other websites
No advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers

IP addresses

IP addresses are collected for two purposes:

Rate limiting — preventing abuse of AI endpoints
Geographic analytics — understanding which countries our users come from

IP addresses are stored in our analytics database but are not linked to individual identities or browsing profiles. They are retained for up to 90 days.

Cookies & local storage

Fjord Intel uses minimal browser storage:

Session ID (sessionStorage) — anonymous identifier for the current browser tab, not persistent across sessions

Language preference (localStorage) — your chosen language (EN/SV)

Followed locations (localStorage) — locations you've saved for proximity alerts

Cookie consent (localStorage) — whether you've acknowledged this policy

Dashboard state (localStorage) — bookmarks and UI preferences

We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or cross-site tracking of any kind.

AI & LLM usage

When you use the Intel Advisor (chat), your messages are sent to DeepSeek's API for processing. Important details:

Messages are processed by DeepSeek (a third-party AI provider) to generate responses

Anonymous question text (without any identifying information) is stored in our database for topic analysis — this helps us understand what users are asking about and improve assessments

AI-generated assessments, reports, and analyses are stored on our servers

Chat conversation history exists only in your browser tab and is lost when you close or refresh

Do not enter personal information, passwords, addresses, or any sensitive personal data in the chat. The chat is designed for conflict intelligence questions only.

Third-party services

Fjord Intel uses the following third-party services:

DeepSeek (AI) — processes chat messages and generates assessments

Perplexity Sonar (web search) — enriches assessments with live web intelligence

Vercel (hosting) — serves the website and runs serverless functions

Supabase (database) — stores events, analyses, and analytics in PostgreSQL

MapTiler (maps) — provides the interactive map tiles

Each service has its own privacy policy. We send only the minimum data necessary to each service.

Data retention

Analytics events: 90 days, then deleted
Anonymous chat questions: 30 days, then deleted
AI assessments: Rolling maximum of 20 (oldest auto-pruned)
Risk snapshots: Retained indefinitely for historical trend analysis
Event data: Retained for the duration of the conflict monitoring period

Your rights

Under GDPR and similar privacy regulations, you have the right to:

Access — request what data we have associated with your IP

Deletion — request removal of your data

Objection — object to data processing

Since we don't collect identifying information beyond IP addresses, most data cannot be linked back to you. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact the project maintainer through the GitHub repository.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as we add features or change data practices. Significant changes will be noted on the roadmap. We recommend checking this page periodically.
